IMMEDIATE 5 steps: After IELTS IDP registration & before joining a course • IIWI

If you’re through with your IELTS Registration 2023, you should hurry up to get your IELTS Preparation 2023 Roadmap ready. The first 5 steps to follow without delay are here for you.

Step #1: What IELTS score do I need?

  • The IELTS exam rating Scale (i.e. IELTS Scores) is between 0 and 9, 9 being the highest score.
  • IELTS Scores are also called IELTS Bands.
  • To get accepted to a university or a short course in an English-speaking country for a Bachelor’s or a Master’s, an overall score between 6 and 9 is commonly required.
  • For most Bachelor’s or Master’s degrees, a Target IELTS score of 6 to 7.5 is required, according to the chosen university and course.
  • For going-to-work-abroad people, the companies or the govt. body sets the Target IELTS SCORE.

Step 2: Test your English Level

People go by general impressions of what English level they might have. Most of the time, students say –  Oh! I can understand English when I read it and when I listen to people. I’m weak only in Speaking & Writing. I need only a little help. It’s a big mistake to make if you are aspiring to sit for the IELTS exam and not checking your English Language levels.

What happens if you skip Step 2 You may not get your IELTS target score the first time (4 out of 10 students pay full cost for the IELTS second attempt).

IELTS is an internationally standardized technical evaluation of English Proficiency. It is not like the 10th and 12th school board tests.  4 out of 10 students have to give IELTS test a second time because they never knew technically – how much they needed to prepare and what topics they needed to prepare for the IELTS target score.

  • You experience the types of tasks you will be asked to undertake in the real IELTS test within the fixed time limit.
  • The free tests give you a review of your answers and compare them with model answers.

What happens if you skip Step 3

Test takers who understand the IELTS exam pattern early, have an advantage. If you’re not familiar with how IELTS testing works, it is most likely that you won’t be able to get your IELTS Target Score in the first time. The mistake – will be entirely you

Here is how IIWI helped Jaspreet understand the gap between his Present English Level & IELTS Target Band 6.  IIWI also guided him on topics he needed to do for Band 6

A bit about Jaspreet Singh  (a non-English background student)
Jaspreet Singh comes from the village Jagraon near Moga. He studied in a local government school there and did his B.Com from Rayat Bahra University, Ropar. Jaspreet wants to migrate to Canada as a chef. He needs an IELTS Band 6. IIWI Expert took his test of all 4 English skills and helped him understand his English Language Gap.

Jaspreet Singh’s Performance in the IELTS Speaking Mock test
He understood a few beginning questions. He answered with heavy hesitation. He spoke very less sentences. He stopped after every 3 or four words. Many sentences were not complete. He was repeating his words. He was nervous. One time he answered wrongly. And he could not understand the last few questions.

Technical English Language Assessment by IIWI IELTS Expert

Jaspreet’s English Speaking skills are between IELTS Band 2 – 3 because he has long gaps in speaking. He takes a lot of time to try and make sentences. In his introduction, he spoke only three sentences. These sentences were mostly 5– 8 words long. In three sentences he made 4 basic grammar mistakes. He was speaking memorized sentences. He had great difficulty in making new sentences on his own at the time of answering. He did not know how to keep the conversation continuing. His pronunciation was heavily non-English.

IIWI Expert’s advice to Jaspreet on how to get IELTS Band 6 | How much preparation is required for IELTS Band 6

To get a IELTS score Band 6, Jaspreet needs to learn a large variety of sentences. For giving his introduction with confidence he must have at least 8-10 points. For getting a Band 6 he should be able to speak at least 10 sentences continuously. The sentences should not be memorized sentences. He needs to have an active vocabulary of at least 1500 words. He needs to clear his pronunciation so that he speaks English with a non-Punjabi accent. Jaspreet needs to practice sentence construction without mistakes. He needs to get comfortable with using a large variety of sentences.

It is not difficult to get your desired band scores if you can identify and work on your English language gaps. You must have a well-managed and sharply aimed plan so that you can make maximum improvement in the shortest possible time. IIWI would love to help you do that and achieve your IELTS success.
